It’s not a terribly environmentally friendly holiday, but it sure is fun! And there are a few things you can do to celebrate on the greener side of things.
For example, my family is keeping the celebration simple. We will be going to the local fireworks display a short drive away, but too far to walk with a 5 year old and a 2 year old. No fireworks of our own, but then they’re illegal here, so that’s not a difficult decision.
The kids are going to be playing outside once it’s cool enough. We have fans so that we don’t need to turn on the air conditioner except in very rare circumstances.
My husband has to fix our propane grill. I tried turning on the propane tank a week or two ago, and quickly shut it off. Something about a hissing noise and strong smell of gas made me think that lighting it would be really, really dumb. Pity, as I would sooner use that than our charcoal grill.
In any case, happy 4th of July to all my readers. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back on a solid posting schedule soon. It’s been a busy week somehow.
